I started Small Beginnings Group to enable me to take a more creative and productive approach
to using my talents. The underlying aim of each course is to raise self esteem & confidence and
improve communication. The principles behind Small Beginnings Group are that each child offers
society the chance of a new beginning, they hold the key to a better way of living. Children are perfect
teachers and their parents are the experts who hold the key to unlocking their potential. I feel
parenting is often an under appreciated role and that by providing parents and those who have contact
with children with support and giving them ways to develop self esteem, confidence, effective
communication and nurturing touch in a child’s life can give the child a wonderful childhood
and a world of potential.

I am a good listener, sensitive and approachable. I am caring and nurturing with a great ability for
encouraging people to get the most out of life. I enjoy challenges and have an inquisitive nature
with sufficient determination to make positive developments successful.
Joanne Edwards, RN (UK&NZ) RHV (UK), BN (HONS), CEIM.
In 1999 Joanne graduated from University of Liverpool with a Bachelors of Nursing Honors Degree,
including Registered Nurse (adult) and Specialist Practitioner (Public Health Nursing and Health Visiting).
Since then she has supported and encouraged families from all walks of life and from many different cultures
–through her work as a health visitor, teenage parent specialist in the UK and more recently an infant
massage educator and breastfeeding coach in New Zealand. She has attended regular professional trainings to
ensure her knowledge and care remain up to date and that she can provide high quality services.
In 2005 Joanne attended the University of Sunderland and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in
Advance Nursing Practice – with an emphasis on Health Visiting.
In 2007 whilst working a specialist for teenage parents and as part of a sexual health promotion team she
completed facilitation training for UK based courses on Assertiveness and Effective Communication;
Self Esteem Building and Speakeasy.
In 2007/8 she attended instructor training for Infant Massage and Massage in Schools Program and is
certified instructor/educator for both of these programs.
Joanne is currently establishing Small Beginnings Group LLC in Portland and is excited about the opportunity
to provide support and care to families in the area.
Joanne is not registered as a nurse in Oregon or USA.
