Individual Support
One to one support is great to help increase breastfeeding confidence or help resolve any worries or problems you may experience. I offer non judgemental and down to earth support all the way through a feed or a cluster of feeds, helping you to get baby latched on, find comfy positions, recognise feeding cues or simply keeping you both company and offering reassurance. These can be one off or regular sessions, they will be flexible to fit in with feeds and demands of a new family.

About Joanne
As a Health Visitor (see about me for further information), I have offered breastfeeding education and support to individual families for the past ten years. I have increased my knowledge and skills by attending regular training that meets with UNICEFs Baby Friendly initiative requirements.
In New Zealand I volunteered to teach alongside Penny Wyatt (Lactation Consultant/Specialist Midwife) at her antenatal breastfeeding education sessions. Breastfeeding rates in New Zealand are much higher and these formal sessions would have up to 70 parents to be attending. I brought with me a longer term view of breastfeeding joys and challenges, whilst gaining knowledge and skills around cultural differences. During this time I also worked alongside a lactation consultant in the local family centre and attended formal education sessions. Last August I was involved in Central Wellingtons Latch On event – helping to raise awareness of breastfeeding (see other projects for further information). I continue to support breastfeeding families with coaching and education as they need, sometimes through discussion or coaching after an infant massage session or as one to one to sort out issues and support continued feeding.
